The Fujitsu Image Scanner fi-7180 is at the head of its class in scanning speed and the plethora of capabilities. This scanner boasts an 80-page Automatic Document Feeder (ADF), an amazingly fast 80-pages-per-minute (ppm) and 160-images-per-minute (ipm) in color, grayscale and monochrome. This machine automatically detects whether a document is color or monochrome and scans accordingly. With this proficiency, up to a staggering 6,000 sheets of paper may be scanned each day. This machine has a high-speed interface, due to the 3.0 USB for faster data transfer between the computer and scanner. Paper jams are prevented with Intelligent Sonic Paper Protection (iSOP), which automatically stops the motor when a paper jam is detected. Thanks to the “Skew Reducer”, the fi-7180 reduces the presence of crooked pages, by automatically sensing and correcting when pages are skewed. This capability dramatically reduces the loss of any missed images because it makes it more likely the entire image is captured.

This machine can accept many different weights and sizes of paper, including anything from labels, receipts, sticky notes, credit and embossed cards (up to 1.4 mm thick) and paper up to 18.3 feet long. With the presence of batch scanning, a multitude of different-sized and shaped papers may all be scanned at once, without requiring the user to sort through papers. As an added benefit, there is an Intelligent Multifeed function that prevents more than one piece of paper to be fed through the scanner at any given time, even if the pages are many different sizes, shapes, and weights. This capability is possible through the utilization of included PaperStream Capture. The addition of PaperStream IP enhances the quality of images and utilizes TWAIN/ISIS technology.

This scanner is around $1,500 retail, has a weight of just over nine pounds, and dimensions of 11.8” x 6.7” x 6.4”, which makes is fairly transportable and relatively affordable. The fi-7180 is super-fast user-friendly, which will greatly increase efficiency in a high-output office environment. The need for rescans and document pre-organization is a thing of the past, with the addition of this scanner to a busy office atmosphere. The ability to manage and retain documents is made far more manageable with the presence of such a workhorse and the ability of an office to become truly paperless is completely possible.
